LANDIVISIAU

Landivisiau is a short drive from Roscoff in Brittany and is a town about the same size as Bideford. The name Landivisiau first appeared in 1292. It started as a monastic foundation with the building of a castle which was destroyed in the 16th century. The trading of heavy horses began in the 18th century & was very successful & every Whitsun there is a very large horse fair in the town. The most popular breed being the Percheron, a model of one stands outside the Town Hall. The town grew quite considerably during the 1960’s with the opening of the nearby airbase, causing new development with houses, schools & roads.

The coat of arms consists of a lion (Leon) surrounded by gold diamonds which represents the Family Rohan, this became the official emblem in 1981.

The North coast of Brittany is stunning, similar to Cornwall, but less people, and a bit warmer.
